The history of the castle ruin which is around 150 metres long on the right bank of the Danube extends back to the 12th century. Find out why the “Rosengärtlein” (“Rose Garden”) was so feared and who the “Hounds of Kuenring” were.

Experience the castle how you want to! We offer both classic tours as well as fairytale tours with the storyteller Dena Seidl. Do you want to explore the castle on your own? No problem with the individually available audio tours.

Peter Hruska and his team look forward to treating you to some culinary delights. Dishes are cooked in the medieval castle kitchen – preferably with products of regional origin. From local to haute cuisine and medieval dishes – enjoy the excellent skills of our chef and the seasonally changing selection on our menu!

Souvenirs

In our shop, you will find mementos, souvenirs, books and gifts for the whole family! There is also a castle café there with chilled and hot drinks as well as small snacks – especially for hikers who need some light refreshments. Opening times: The shop and castle café are open all day during the opening times of the castle ruin!

Celebrating at the Castle Ruin

Special events require a special setting. If you want to celebrate your birthday, wedding or a company anniversary at a unique location, then you have come to exactly the right place. Situated high above on a rocky crag, with a breathtaking view over the Wachau, you can celebrate in the Knights' Hall at Aggstein castle ruin.

Exit Melk – right at the roundabout – in the direction of Krems – turn off right before you get to the Danube bridge, in the direction of Schönbühel – B33 until Aggstein

Access: The road up to the castle is accessible for cars and buses.
Parking: There are sufficient parking spaces in front of the castle ruin.
For people with disabilities/handicaps, there are two signposted disabled parking areas available directly in front of the entrance.
